Once the steering wheel light bar turns green, you may remove your hands from the steering wheel. Don’t remove your hands unless the light bar is green, which indicates that Super Cruise† is steering the vehicle. To disengage Super Cruise,† take control of the steering wheel, press the Super Cruise† button again or press the brake pedal or pull the Regen on Demand paddle if equipped. Super Cruise will not brake the vehicle when approaching an intersection that is controlled by a traffic light or stop sign. Super Cruise will not detect vehicles crossing the road ahead, including at intersections, and will not automatically steer or brake to prevent a collision.

Super Cruise† allows the driver to drive hands-free when compatible highway driving conditions allow the feature to be available; but the driver still needs to pay close attention to the road. Even while using the Super Cruise† driver assistance technology, drivers should always pay attention while driving and not use a hand-held device. Super Cruise does not perform all aspects of driving nor do everything a driver can do.
Chevrolet Connected Services
Currently, GM is expanding Super Cruise usability from around 200,000 miles to 400,000 miles of roadways in the US and Canada, and there are no signs things will slow down from there. When you buy the vehicle, the sensors are fixed, but GM does upgrade the software via over-the-air updates and plans to keep extending the number of roads Super Cruise works with. If or when it'll be suitable for city streets is anybody's guess.
Does the Super Cruise system turn my car into an autonomous vehicle?
It's precisely the kind of driving Super Cruise should shine with, and it does - mostly. Super Cruise will be available on 22 vehicles by 2023, including Cadillac LYRIQ10 and GMC HUMMER EV SUV11. Additional vehicles that offer versions of Super Cruise include the 2022 Cadillac XT612 and the 2022 Chevrolet Bolt EUV13. The Super Cruise system is a highly sophisticated system and should only be serviced by technicians with the proper training, tools and safety instructions, which are qualifications Chevrolet dealers have. Without these qualifications the vehicle may become damaged.
SUBURBAN (select trims only)
The system also uses LiDAR for the adaptive cruise control part of the system. Once I made it to the freeway I turned on the regular cruise control, and Super Cruise became sporadically available as indicated by a steering wheel icon on the driver’s display. To activate Super Cruise, you press the cruise control button again, and the system phases in. Once the light bar that’s integrated into the top portion of the steering wheel rim glows solid green, the system is active and drivers can take their hands off the wheel. Super Cruise† is not available when Teen Driver† is active. Additionally, Super Cruise† should never be used under difficult or uncertain driving conditions.

Super Cruise† is a hands-free driver assistance technology for compatible roads. Super Cruise uses advanced technologies to provide the ease and convenience of hands-free driving. As easy as 1, 2, 3 — enable Super Cruise hands-free driver technology in three simple steps. While enabled, Super Cruise works with Adaptive Cruise Control† to control acceleration and braking, and with OnStar to ensure that your vehicle receives the latest updates. It uses real-time precise positioning, cameras, sensors and LiDAR map data to help detect every curve, helping to make long drives comfortable and more convenient so you can arrive to your destination refreshed.
On other vehicles, your settings for these features will remain set, even if you turn your vehicle off and on again. When it is safe to do so, press the SUPER CRUISE button on the steering wheel to engage Super Cruise. Each individual has their own tendency of where they drive in a lane, and where they perceive the centre of the lane to be. Because we do not sit in the centre of the vehicle, this can vary from driver to driver, and also depends on what type of vehicle is being driven based on how wide or tall the vehicle is. Super Cruise† is designed to drive in the true centre of the lane (+/- 4 inches or 10 cm). In addition, in the Bolt EUV, Super Cruise† does not move to one side of the lane when passing traffic.
TAHOE (select trims only)
At any time during the maneuver, you can cancel Lane Change On Demand by manually steering. The Super Cruise symbol will turn blue when you do this and the maneuver will be canceled. Once your vehicle is centered in the lane, the Super Cruise symbol will transition back to green.

GM Expands Super Cruise Network to 750,000 Hands-Free Miles, Largest in North America
My daily driver is a 2017 Mini Cooper, so I’m not even used to driving an average sized car let alone a full-size truck towing a 23-foot trailer. As you might imagine, when Chevrolet invited me to experience towing a trailer through Los Angeles while using the Super Cruise technology in a Silverado pickup, I was still nervous as hell but excited to experience it nonetheless. Chevrolet’s Super Cruise is a Level 2 automated driving system that, through a series of complicated technology, allows hands-free semi-autonomous driving on specific approved roadways. I have a big history with Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (or ADAS) technology, since I was a test driver for two years with Mercedes-Benz Research and Development, where I worked on Mercedes’ Level 3 Drive Pilot system. But until last week, I had neither tried out Super Cruise nor had I ever towed a trailer before, because the prospect of towing was horrifying. When Super Cruise is off, the light bar on your steering wheel will be off and the Super Cruise symbol on your Driver Information Center will also be off.
In order to get Super Cruise working again, you must either drive the vehicle long enough for the automatic updates via your OnStar service plan to take effect or visit the dealer to have a new map update downloaded to the vehicle for free. Once you are ready for Super Cruise to steer again, center the vehicle in the lane and wait for the steering wheel to turn green. You can remove your hands when the steering wheel is green. More than 400,000 miles of compatible roads†Available on select Chevy vehicles in the U.S. and Canada. This road expansion allows you to travel hands-free on more roads than ever before. With an attentive driver, and under the proper conditions, Super Cruise can permit hands-free operation of the vehicle.
It is important to always remember that Super Cruise is a driver assistance technology and cannot accurately detect all situations, so you should pay attention to the road ahead while Super Cruise is engaged. Super Cruise also cannot determine whether the driver is awake, asleep, impaired or properly focused on safe driving. Complete attention is always required while driving, even when using Super Cruise. The driver should always be prepared to take over steering or apply the brakes at any time.
Super Cruise cannot steer to avoid any objects (including vehicles, animals, pedestrians, bicyclists, potholes, debris, construction barriers or cones). It is designed to help you stay in a single lane and works with Adaptive Cruise Control to help you keep distance between you and the vehicle ahead of you. Super Cruise will then begin searching for an acceptable opening in the lane, while giving other drivers enough time to see your turn signal. You’ll see a message in your Driver Information Center (DIC) letting you know Super Cruise is looking for an opening.
